Artistry Community Theatre (ACT) Corp. has been selected to nominate one person to receive the Maureen Moll: Excellence in Community Theatre Award through Clinton Community College. The person selected should demonstrate commitment, service, and support for excellence in community theater. Preference will be given to individuals with a connection to Clinton Community College. All nominees will be presented to the selection committee for consideration, review, and selection. Once an award recipient has been determined, it will go before the ACT Board of Directors for approval.
Maureen was active for many years as actress, director, and producer with the Plattsburgh Little Theatre. She also did volunteer work for several organizations including Plattsburgh State College's Women's Club, CVPH fundraiser, "The Follies," Meals on Wheels, Clinton County Council on the Arts, and Radio Reading Service of the North Country Office for Independence. Maureen did volunteer work wherever her Air Force officer husband was stationed, in both the military and civilian communities. She sang in various choirs and participated in community theatres, including the American Protestant Church choir and the British Comedy Club in Brussels, Belgium.
Colonel Moll was transferred from Belgium to Plattsburgh Air Force Base in 1962. In the Plattsburgh Air Force Base Officers' Wives' Club, Maureen served as secretary, directed tours to Montreal, taught cross-country, skiing, and founded and directed a drama club, "The Powder Puff Players," which performed musical revues and comedy shows both on base and in the community. She received several awards for her volunteer work including Angel of the Quarter from Plattsburgh Air Force Base, the Annual Arts Award from the Clinton County Council on the Arts, and the annual Honor Award from Trinity Episcopal Church where she sang in the choir for many years.
In 2003, Maureen was part of a volunteer group which founded Plattsburgh Memorial Chapel, Inc., whose purpose is to restore, revive, and oversee the re-use of the Chapel (the former Old Base Chapel), located on the former Air Force Base. She served as Fund Raising chair and President of the Board of Directors.
