The Story

Set aboard the ocean liner S.S. American in the 1930s, Anything Goes is a madcap musical comedy full of mistaken identities, romantic entanglements, and high-seas hijinks. The story follows nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and her friend Billy Crocker, a young Wall Street broker who stows away on the ship to pursue his love, debutante Hope Harcourt — who’s engaged to the wealthy but stuffy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh.

As Billy tries to win Hope’s heart, he gets tangled in a web of disguises, aided by Reno and Moonface Martin, a gangster posing as a clergyman. With tap-dancing sailors, witty banter, and classic Cole Porter songs like “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “You’re the Top,” and the show-stopping “Anything Goes,” this screwball comedy is a joyful celebration of love, luck, and letting loose.
