Music & Lyrics by Jason Robert Brown

Originally Produced by the WPA Theatre, New York City, 1995 (Kyle Renick, Artistic Director)

Original Orchestration by Brian Besterman and Jason Robert Brown

It's about one moment. It's about hitting the wall and having to make a choice... or take a stand... or turn around and go back. These are the stories and characters of today, the Songs for a New World. The first musical from Tony Award winner, Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Bridges of Madison County), this moving collection of powerful songs examines life, love and the choices that we make.

Brown transports his audience from the deck of a 1492 Spanish sailing ship to a ledge, 57 stories above Fifth Avenue, to meet a startling array of characters that range from a young man who has determined that basketball is his ticket out of the ghetto to a woman whose dream of marrying rich nabs her the man of her dreams... and a soulless marriage.

"Songs for a New World" is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

Meet The Cast

MICHAEL BERGMAN

Michael Bergman (Man 2) is a lifelong resident of Upstate New York. He studied briefly at the Crane School of Music, but he got bored and dropped out. His only performances for several years consisted of drunken karaoke, until he had occasion to meet Derrick Hopkins and Jennifer Moore, and was cast as Collins in ETC's production of Rent.  Since Rent,  Michael has performed in other local productions including Luke in Next Fall, Daddy in Sweet Charity, and Fred in Smokey Joe's Cafe. He has also been a part of several productions with Clinton Community College's Drama Club such as High School Reunion: The Musical (Calvin), Legally Blonde (Elle's Dad), and Avenue Q (Nicky), as well as several musical revues. His directorial debut was Spellbound: A Halloween Music Revue, which was a fundraiser for CCC's Drama Club. Currently, Michael wanders aimlessly through the labyrinth of adulthood hoping to figure out what to be when he grows up. He is grateful and pleased to have the opportunity to perform in Songs For a New World, a show that has provided him with much inspiration and hope through the years.

Elisha is currently the 7-12 grade choral director in the Saranac Central School District.
